Self Assembly. . . review

20 March 2003, York

Dear all,

I just got back from your Self Assembly performance at York City Screen. I thoroughly enjoyed it, a kind of 'Seven Ages of Woman'.

It was so timely, I can quite understand why Jean Hegland said aferwards that it restored her faith on 'a hard day'. If you aim to communicate truth through the arts you have singularly succeeded, as well as showing that, through all the different characters (apart from the authoritarian ones), the same human spirit appears in everyone's life. My favourite quote on the screen was 'the opposite of love is not hate but indifference'.

The dancing during 7301 was really moving, as it was when the actors exited stage two by two towards the end of the performance.

Congratulations to you all,

Best,

Matt Bryden
